I’ve always been intrigued by transitions in color, including the transitions between shades of a single color and the blending of the colors within a rainbow. This led me to use 4 shades of gray to color in some of my doodles, creating a series of gray scales. Later in 2018 when I participated in 171 Cedar Arts Center’s Mosaic event, I chose color scales for my theme. This event required each participating artist to create fifty 6x6 inch pieces with a common theme. To create my fifty pieces I took seven of my designs and painted each using a monochromatic scale of seven different colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and magenta), and for my fiftieth piece I used all seven colors in one design, to create a rainbow scale.
