Doodling is how I started creating geometric artwork. As a teenager I made a very simple alphabet code, and soon after I began combining my code symbols with designs used in the Psyanky style of egg decorating, in order to create black and white egg designs. Eventually I stopped designing for a three dimensional egg and began focusing on creating designs for 2 dimensional paper. Each design starts with two or more of the symbols from my code. I doodle and sketch with these symbols until I have a design I like, usually starting with black pen on white paper. Originally I was creating these designs as cards for friends and family so I began naming each design for a characteristic I thought represented the person for whom the card was made.
